Is there Uber in Athens?
Short answer: yes, but not the Uber you're used to. In Greece, the Uber app only hails standard yellow street taxis — it does not dispatch private drivers as it does in most other countries. Here's what that means for your arrival, and how a pre-booked private transfer compares.
How Uber works in Athens
After a change in Greek law, Uber partnered with the local taxi network. When you open the app in Athens, you request a metered yellow cab. The fare runs on the taxi meter, drivers may not speak English, and at Athens International Airport you'll queue for the next available car — the same as walking to the rank.
